Living in the Sun City can come with its downfalls, especially for your pets. In El Paso, we see a lot of heat stroke in pets. It’s important to remember if we are hot, they are extra hot because they have a fur coat on.Here in El Paso, there’s not enough
El Paso summers are hot not only for us but our pets. Make sure to keep these tips in mind this summer to keep your pets safe.
5 Second Rule: Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 5 seconds. If it is too hot for you, it is too hot for your pet. Walking your pet on a hot surface can cause severe pain and blistering.
Hot Cars: NEVER leave your pet in a parked car without the air conditioning running. Even with the window left open, the temperature in your vehicle can become 30 degrees hotter than the outside temperature in less than 10 minutes.
Always make sure your pet has plenty of access to water and shade. If you are having trouble getting your pet to drink enough water, try adding ice cubes as a bonus to attract them to the water.
