Dental disease is the most commonly diagnosed disease in pets. Severe dental disease and gingivitis can lead to infections in the rest of the body and other organs including the heart, kidneys, and liver. As the bacteria and tartar build, it will cause inflammation in the gums (gingivitis) and then proceed up into the bone that holds the teeth. Once in the bone, the bacteria eats away at the bone and causes permanent damage. The process is painful and dangerous to your pet’s health. Your pet may not be able to show you that they are in pain, so it is up to you to be consciences and prevent these painful procedures before they occur.
We recommend that you brush your pet’s teeth daily, give them an Oravet chew daily, and get professional dental cleanings 1-2 times per year. Dental cleanings are preformed under general anesthesia. The cost is dependent upon the weight of your pet and the severity of the dental disease. Pre-surgical bloodwork is required and must be done prior to the appointment, so please bring your pet in for a general exam and estimate.
